Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actor known for her performance as the fierce attorney Teri Joseph in the Showtime series Soul Food. After her wedding, she is also known for her role as Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always fascinated by acting. At a Maryland high school event in her early years of training, she was awarded the title for the most outstanding actress. She received her degree in acting at New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company' and in theatre. The family was born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until 7 years old, Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed the world and an array of cultures at a very young age. She attended boarding school in London from seven to nine years of age, and then her family relocated into Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her early childhood and adulthood. When she was in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and trained as an classical ballerina. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts - a specialized arts high school where she was able to study more than just dance but also theater. Contractor, who had been dancing for over 10 years by the time she was and decided to pursue acting. She accepted a full-scholarship to attend the University of Toronto after graduating. She earned a master's degree in theater and double majored in sociology and psychology. Contractor with a degree in sociology, having spent a year in university and auditioned at an open call for Pericles, at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadain Canada] and was selected for the part. In 2002, Canadian reviewers praised her performance during 92 performances of Pericles. Contractor accepted the invitation to take part in Stratford's Conservatory course.
